and Maon was the father of Bethzur; prince of a very strong fortified city of this name in the same tribe, Joshua 15:58, unless this was a son of Maon's, from whom the city had its name.

2:1-55 Genealogies. - We are now come to the register of the children of Israel, that distinguished people, who were to dwell alone, and not be reckoned among the nations. But now, in Christ, all are welcome to his salvation who come to him; all have equal privileges according to their faith in him, their love and devotedness to him. All that is truly valuable consists in the favour, peace, and image of God, and a life spent to his glory, in promoting the welfare of our fellow-creatures.

1 Chronicles 2:44 Shema was the father of Raham, and Raham the father of Jorkeam. Rekem was the father of Shammai.
1 Chronicles 2:46 Caleb's concubine Ephah was the mother of Haran, Moza and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez.

Beth Bethzur Beth-Zur Maon Ma'on Shammai Sham'mai Zur

And the son of Shammai was Maon: and Maon was the father of Bethzur.

Beth-zur. Beth-zur was situated in the tribe of Judah, twenty miles south from Jerusalem, towards Hebron, according to Eusebius. It was fortified by Rehoboam, (2 Ch 11:7) and was a fortress of great consequence, principally in the time of the Maccabees. 1 Mac 4:28; 6:7, etc.
